Welcome to the Chilliwack River Valley & the Skagit Range Mountains
Out side of the Chilliwack parks one can find many types of activities, both non-motorised and motorized. The fine Chilliwack/Vedder River is famous for its year round salmon fishing and is also popular for kayaking and rafting. The multitude of Chilliwack hiking trails and mountaineering routes amidst the varying topography of valley bottom, gentle mountains, high ridges and rugged peaks has created a renowned destination for hikers and mountaineers alike. Other more daring activities here include paragliding, downhill mountain biking and spelunking (caving). Motorized activities such as quad riding, dirt biking and four wheeling occur here within certain areas. Vedder Mountain and Chipmunk Ck/Spoon Ck areas are two such areas offering a mix of single track, tracks, back roads and 4WD roads. Despite this areas proximity to the developed areas of the City of Chilliwack and Abbotsford, abundant wildlife of different forms prevails. Black bear, cougar, mountain goat, mule deer, spawning salmon, bald eagle, pileated woodpecker and chipmunk are but a few. Also, old growth forest, alpine meadows and wildflowers are among the many flora delights of this area.
