WELCOME TO THE SOUTHERN CHILCOTIN MOUNTAINS

The beautiful Southern Chilcotin Mountains (SCM) host an incredible variety of landscapes, geology, flora and fauna. The old growth forests, low elevation aspen meadows, glaciers, alpine lakes and meadows, numerous ridges and lofty peaks of this area are home to a profusion of animals including wolf, moose, mountain goat, bighorn sheep, mountain lion and grizzly. The wildflower displays here rank amongst the most resplendent in BC.

Combining all of this with the existing, vast network of trails and routes gives rise to a world class parkland. Some of the best horseback riding, mountain biking, mountaineering and backpacking in BC is found here. Other activities include pack horse tours, day hiking, fishing, backcountry skiing, heli-skiing and snowshoeing.

Two large parks reside here: the South Chilcotin Mountains Park (SCMP) which exists within the Spruce Lake Protected Area and Big Creek Provincial Park. The BC provincial government recently reduced the size of the SCMP and so its boundaries have changed.

Another notable area within the South Chilcotin Mountains is the popular Mud Lakes located to the E of the parks. Attractions include picturesque lakes, great camping, fishing and many backroads and trails for a wide variety of non-motorised and motorised activities.
